Macri Wraps Up Speedweek Title with Keith Kauffman Classic Victory; Josh Weller Scores First Career Speedway Win with URC

Port Royal Speedway, PORT ROYAL, Pa – (July 4, 2023)- Anthony Macri capped off a dominating Pennsylvania Speedweek with his second career Valley Supply Keith Kauffman Classic victory over Logan Wagner and Mike Wagner.
The win, which came in front of a packed house on Independence Day, was worth $15,000 and helped Macri lock up his first career Speedweek title.
Five-time defending track champion Logan Wagner and his father, Mike Wagner, lined up on the front row for the 30-lap feature event and it was the younger Wagner jumping out to an early lead.
However, the start was null and void following contact with Jeff Halligan and TJ Stutts that sent Stutts flipping inside the backstretch jersey barriers on the opening lap. Stutts would walk away ok from the scene.
The younger Wagner again grabbed the top spot following a complete restart, but the wild night on track continued after three laps when Danny Dietrich got upside down in turn’s three and four in a single-car incident to again bring out the red flag. Dietrich, who was running eight =h at the time of the wreck, would also walk away unhurt.
Macri, who started fourth, lined up second for the restart, but Wagner proved to be fast as he raced out again to a lead. Fifth-place starter Brent Marks grabbed the fourth spot on the following lap and one lap later seventh-place starter Devon Borden cracked the top five.
Following a caution for Jason Shultz getting turned around in turn’s and two, Marks moved into a podium position on lap seven. Wagner continued to set the pace up front, but his momentum stalled as he hit the tail-end of the field on lap 12.
Wagner held off Macri’s advances over the next two laps, but Macri capitalized with a slide job in turn’s three and four to grab the top spot at the halfway point. Within five laps Macri had already built up a 2.8 second advantage and he was adding to it when the final red flag of the event flew with four laps remaining for a flipping Borden.
Wagner made one last effort on the restart to take the top spot back, but Macri wasn’t to be dnied as he cruised home with ease to his second win of the season at the Speedway.  Marks and Justin Peck made up the rest of the top five, while Lance Dewease, Justin Whittall, Mike Walter II, Kyle Reinhardt, and Freddie Rahmer rounded out the top ten.
Peck earned the night’s $500 Valley Supply Hard Charger, while 13th-place finisher Dylan Norris earned the $1000 J&S Classics Warrior Award via random draw.

Macri, who was attempting to sweep the evening features, was battling for the runner-up spot just past the halfway mark when the two made contact and caused Macri to come to a slow. He was able to re-join the field.
Following the incident, Weller held off various drivers’ attempts to wrestle away the top spot. Macri was putting on a show as he came back through the field, but nobody had anything for Weller up front.
Cody Fletcher, Robbie Stillwaggon, Mike Thompson, Matthew Swift and Tyler Walton completed the top ten.
